Fire and household contents insurance requirements
Check whether insurance is required, the three types of coverage, and how to submit documents after signing your lease.
Insurance may be required or optional depending on the property. Check the listing and your lease terms.
Insurance required
Arrange coverage from the lease start date and submit documents before moving in.
Insurance optional
You decide whether to take out insurance. If you do, you can submit documents through move-in preparation after the lease is concluded.
Why take out insurance?
It helps you prepare for damage to your belongings from incidents such as fire or water leaks, liability to the landlord for damage to the rented home, and liability for harm to third parties. Covered events, limits and amounts vary by policy; check them before enrollment.
Three types of coverage required
If insurance is required, it must include all three below, take effect on the lease start date, and remain in force throughout the lease.
- Household contents coverage
- Tenant liability coverage
- Personal liability coverage
Choose your own insurer and policy
You do not have to purchase a particular insurer’s product designated by ATLAS DOT ONE Japan株式会社. Confirm with your insurer that the coverage and dates meet the requirements. Pay premiums directly to the insurer; they are not included in the initial invoice from ATLAS DOT ONE Japan株式会社.
Insurance required
From enrollment to confirmation
Application and screening: review the property’s requirements. No insurance purchase or documents are needed at this stage.
After approval: arrange insurance before moving in. If required, choose coverage that starts on the lease start date.
After the lease is concluded: submit documents through the move-in preparation page on ATLAS DOT ONE Japan株式会社. The owner reviews them and may request corrections and resubmission.
Documents to submit after the lease is concluded
Submit the policy or proof of enrollment showing the policyholder, insured property address, coverage period and all three types of coverage. If the policy has not been issued yet, you may submit another document confirming enrollment and the start of coverage.
Submission alone does not complete verification. The owner reviews the documents. For properties requiring insurance, key handover can proceed once both the initial payment and insurance have been confirmed.
When insurance is renewed or coverage changes, submit current documents through move-in preparation or contract management.
